TinyMCE Advanced Wordpress Plugin

TinyMCE Advanced For Wordpress

TinyMCE is a nice Wordpress plugin that allows you to add a lot of design choices to your actual blog post and will be used as a minimum on your blog. TinyMCE Advanced though, is the next model up (still free) and it adds another 15 design features to your blog posts.

Locating TinyMCE Advanced

In Wordpress V2.7 and up this can be done from within the admin panel just by doing a search and install. For those with older version, you can download the plugin here.

Activating TinyMCE Advanced

Activate the plugin like any other, and then navigate to the settings area of your admin panel to set up how you would like your tool bars set up. Here you can drag and drop the features that you want displayed when you write posts or pages in the visual editor mode. Just remember to have the kitchen sink feature displaying on the top bar so you can access your other tools when writing.

Using TinyMCE

OK, the fun part starts here.

This plugin can really save you a lot of time too if you post regularly, as there are a lot of shortcuts to be utilized from within here. The best way to learn any new tool IMHO is to just get in and use it. Linking, imaging, and embedding video are now a lot easier to insert into your posts, and there are tools within that will help with SEO tactics as well.

Go and write a blog post and try out some of the cool features that TinyMCE Advanced offers, and I’m sure you will not be without it again.

I just installed the TinyMCE Advanced Plugin – it works alright.

I want to know how you get more buttons on there like the ones you got – facebook, flickr, vimeo, youtube etc.

  9. Hi Clint, what happened to the post on expanding the TinyMCE panel? I’ve seen you mention TinyMCE several times in your posts but you don’t seem to have come back to how to personalise it to add in the Flash, YouTube, Vimeo, etc. buttons. Did I just not look hard enough or is it on its way?

  10. @Neil Williams

    Hi Neil,

To expand the fields, you just need to go to the settings area in your wordpress admin panel, and add the features that you want.

To get the video buttons, you need to install a plugin canned Viper Quicktags, and I highly recommend it. Easy to use and adds a lot of functionality to your posts :-)
