How To Use Filezilla To FTP Wordpress Files

Being able to use an FTP Client such as Filezilla is a must if you are working online, and especially so if you have a self hosted installation of Wordpress. In today’s post, I want to give you a quick overview on how to easily use an FTP Client, and get your Wordpress themes quickly uploaded to your remote server.

Filezilla Video Tutorial

So that’s a very basic overview on using Filezilla to upload Wordpress themes. As I stated in the clip, this is very simple stuff and you should not be put off by it. Some points to remember when you go to use it.

  • Your host name is generally yourdomain.com
  • Your user name and password can generally be found in your hosting admin panel, and you can create FTP accounts from in there as well, so you can give other people FTP access too.
  • You can simply just drag and drop files and even entire folders, from the local to the remote, and remote to local if needed.

If you have any questions relating to Filezilla or FTP in general, then please feel free to contact me here or via email and I will be able to assist you.  I hoped that you liked this video tutorial on how to use Filezilla to upload your Wordpress Themes.

    Clinton;

I have just set up a blog through gimme a blog option on wordpress.
It is all very new to me .
I have been able to download Filezilla and get the interface screen you have on you Filezilla Video tutorial.
When I go to connect to the host I am unable to connect.
I think I know what my host name ; username and password is but how can I find out for sure.
You mention I can find these in a hosting admin panel ??
I am endeavouring to do this through an internet cafe and am assuming this makes no difference to a personal pc ??

If you could help it would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

  3. Hi Paul,

You will have to log in to your hosting panel and head over to FTP accounts. Here you can get in and view your password and user name. If you are unable to, then just make a new FTP account and select your own user/password. Remember, the host will be yourdomain.com , and your user name might have a @yourdomain.com on the end of it.

    Good luck :-)

  4. Great post for anybody new to wordpress and uploading files to their wordpress installation, whether that be theme’s plugins or other assets.

Filezilla is a great tool for FTP transfers, especially for those new to the web.

From the forums I have noticed many people pulling their hair out trying to setup their FTP program to their web host. I think the main problem is each host does things a little differently so its hard to give people easy to follow advice.

The subject makes for a great tutorial video!

  8. @Suraj – Hi, when you buy a domain to build a site on you need hosting for it. Hostgator is a good one to use.
