Australia’s Top 100 Influential Twitterers

twitternickhacThe following list of Australia’s Top 100 Influential Twitterers was created and is powered by @nickhac of ShiftedPixels the Online Influence Agency based in Sydney, Australia.

There are many lists out there on the web like Meg’s effort on Dipping into the Blogpond to keep the Top 100 Australian Blogs list updated, and Leigh’s list of the Top 100 Australian Women’s Blogs however, no-one has posted the Top Twitterati from Australia… so Nick took it upon himself to Be The One to do it… and why not seeing as Twitters growth is escalating at a very rapid pace.

Originally, he thought to list 50 of the top Aussie Tweeters and once word got out, they all came out of the woodweb and left their ID’s or were recommended in the comments. Hence, it has become a list of Australia’s Top 100 Influential Twitterers.

EDIT: This list is no longer updated. Please visit Shifted Pixels (use link above) to see this list. Alternatively, visit Twitter Grader and use search term for Australia. Thank You.

  2. Great top 100 twitter list , not sure if there is a perfect 100 for top 100 Australians or it can be created fairly or calcutated with out nay short commings, you could probably have a list of top 100 updater’s, top 100 followers and top 100 following to make it even more fair, but great work any ways Nick

  3. How the hell does a peanut with only 83 tweets qualify as the 3rd most influential twitterer in Australia?

    :P

  4. @Brian Baulch – Hi Brian, I think no matter which way you make a list, it will never be “the” perfect list. Thanks for your support.

    :)

  5. @@ChrisSylvester – Yeah… not sure how that one went down Chris. It does seem a little odd! A peanut huh!

    :)

  6. How does one make it onto such a list???
What do you use to decide who is who?

  7. @Hayley Solich – Hi Haley, I just checked your Twitter stats and I’d say you most definitely should be on this list. Best thing is to head to Nick’s original post and leave him a “self-promo” note in the comments.

The formula is at the bottom of this post and his which is this:
The formula Nick has used for calculating the TwitterRank is:

    TwitterRank = (Following / 10) + (Followers) + (Updates/100)

  9. I’m going to have a soap box moment here …

What’s the point of a HUGE network? Do these people know the thousands of followers they have accumulated? If the proverbial sh*t hit the fan, would those thousands of people be there to support and help? Or, put it the other way around, if a friend needed genuine help, do the “network number gatherers” actually KNOW their network well enough to be able to sincerely recommend someone ?

    No.

It’s been shown over and over again, quite embarrassingly on many occasions, that the people with the biggest networks are generally the worst people to ask for meaningful help – they have no idea who the stunning woman is standing in front of them because they have 38,000 stunning women in their networks and they can’t figure out who is which.

So while I would say “congratulations” if that’s what they want to hear, I’d feel far more inclined to say that when they have 38,000 testimonials from their 38,000 strong network …

  10. influence cannot be measured thus.

as each follower would be subjective as to how seriously they might take any given update…

for example i may be following kevin rudd, but if his update is only one of 10,000 i read that day, he’s less influential than, say someone for whose tweets i actively look for.

Also, there are people I follow who’s opinion I loathe, but I follow them in order to be aware of the puerile notions of what constitutes ’social media theory’ in an industry where everyone is jostling to be the know-it-all.

I would hate to think that someone i don’t like is getting a big head over being influential due to a statistical abberation!!

  11. Woohoo…I’ve finally made the list, debuting at #15.

    11

  12. @@anvil – That’s bound to happen! You make a good point re @KevinRuddPm … he doesn’t twitter all that much and I very rarely catch his tweets in my timeline. Who knows what the most successful formula is to determine the most influential?

  16. I can’t DM you because you’re not (yet) following me but I think I should be on that list too… please?

  17. Hi Kathie, You will need to hop on over to ShiftedPixels and leave a comment for Nick H’aC. He’s the one who made the list so he can add you :) Thanks for checking it out!

  18. So this is essentially just a list of people with the most followers.. Amount of followers does not equal amount of influence. I know a few people on this list personally and I don’t think their intention is to be influential… yet another worthless list and waste of time in my opinion.

  19. @light487 – LOL! All opinions are welcome here. Thanks for your input!
